Question 1
In the world we are moving in, the focus has not only been placed on a learning but also
performance and experience. I agree with this statement as a manager because it is only through
performance measurement that the manager is able to establish just how far the organization is in
terms of meeting its set objectives and goals. It is noteworthy that organizational goals are set
according to the capability of the organization and once employee performance is gauged against
the goals set, management is better placed to identify the learning areas to focus in on the way to
achieving the organization’s goals. This is like identifying the gaps then filling then through
learning as it would be in vain to keep learning without determining the results that learning is
yielding for the organization. Performance and experience also link the employee potential or the
current status and the organizations potential which is fundamental in the identification of
learning needs for the employees (Jennings, 41-46).
Question 2
To bring value and create results that make a significant difference to the organization’s
results, L & D and HR professionals should learn to:
1. Communicate more strategically with the organization’s key decision makers.

2. Be persuasive in the way in which they communicate with decision makers so that
they are in a position to clearly understand what they want and need.
3. Ensure that L & D and human resources are handled more like strategic partners as
opposed to service providers for them to openly help and give their invaluable views
on the human resource strategies to be implemented.
4. Use factual information like numbers and statistics when communicating with
decision makers to be more convincing and to make their case stronger.
5. Be able to communicate the value of results achieved even at the operational levels
(Jennings, 54).
