How should Austin handle its homeless population?
Texas is among the most populous states in the United States; it is second after California.
The increase in population has increased the number of social issues like homelessness in major
cities like Austin. Austin, Texas, the state capital, has witnessed an influx in the number of
homeless people in recent times. Homelessness is a major issue affecting a significant section of
the people in Austin. Some of the possible factors for the increase in Austin’s homelessness include
the lack of affordable housing, poverty, joblessness, mental illnesses, alcohol and substance abuse,
among others.
On May 1, 2021, voters in the state capital approved Proposition B. this move made it a
criminal offense (a Class C Misdemeanor, typically punishable by fine) for people to sit down, lie

pass policies to increase employment and income. A high-income generation will enable the
homeless people to afford better housing facilities. Public housing and rental housing assistance
are two policies that should be implemented to address the homelessness in Austin. When
