For many companies, social media concentration strategies are critical for their
success within the industry. These strategies involve trying to compete successfully by
concentrating its efforts on only one social media platform. Social media sub-strategies such
as platform strategy may have both pros and cons to the company. Platform strategy is one of
the sub-strategies that an organization can focus on in its social media strategy. The
advantage of this strategy is that an organization can easily reach its target audience
(Lindsey-Mullikin & Borin, 2017). An organization might choose to use a specific social
media platform for its business purposes because it can reach the target audience faster since
most of the company's target audience is concentrated in that particular platform. For
example, if an organization wants to reach out to as many people as possible who are below
35 years of age, it may decide to use Instagram as its major platform for that.
Another advantage of applying platform strategy in business is that an organization
gets to connect directly to its clients (Elena, 2016). This means, by getting a direct connection
to customers, an organization can easily get to understand their audience better; provide
quality customer service by easily handling grievances and complaints; collect insights of the
customers and boost brand loyalty.
One of the disadvantages associated with the application of the platform strategy of
social media is that the company may stand to lose the opportunity that comes with
diversifying social media platforms. For instance, a company that only concentrates on using
Facebook may miss an important marketing opportunity that exists on other platforms such as
Instagram or Twitter. In other words, by focusing on only one social media platform, it
