There are a number of push-pull factors that are of significance in attracting undocumented

migrants to North America, Europe and the more developed countries of Asia. These push-push

factors are majorly classified into economic, cultural, and environmental factors. Essentially, the

push-pull factors are inducements for people’s movement from one location to another. The push

factors are forces or conditions that drive people forcefully away from their area of residence or

country whereas the pull factors are conditions or factors that attract people to specific places

(European Commission, 2000). Some of the examples of push factors include inadequate number

of jobs, few opportunities, famine, natural disasters, and even political unrest etc. Further, the

examples of pull factors include better living conditions, security, enjoyment of better education,

better healthcare, etc. Nonetheless, the aforementioned push-pull factors contribute to migration

of people in one way or the other, but there are some that are of greater importance in attracting

undocumented migrants to North America, Europe, and the more developed countries of Asia.

Personally, I believe the economic push-pull factors have the greatest importance in

attracting undocumented migrants to North America, Europe, and the more developed countries

of Asia. The economic conditions especially in developing countries such as poor education, few

job opportunities, and poor living conditions are some of the push factors that compel people to

move to other better places that are perceived to be developed (European Commission, 2000). The

economic pull factors in terms of the perception of the existence of more job opportunities, better

education, technology, and health are some of the major factors attracting undocumented migrants

to North America, Europe, and the more developed countries of Asia (O’Leary, 2014). For

instance, the promise for “better life” is one for the common pull factors cited as attracting many

undocumented migrants to the United States, with the view of securing better paying jobs.
