PSYCHOLOGY QUESTION 2
Question1.
When I think of young children participating in PE there are many things that come to my
mind that can be seen as huge benefits to both their physical and mental health and growth. We
often see physical education departments being neglected based off the overall idea that maybe PE
isn't as important to cognitive growth as other subjects such as, math, reading and science.
However, I believe that this may be related to a lack of knowledge around reasons why physical
education is so crucial to overall development in children.
Regular physical activity is important because it helps prevent obesity while also
promoting motor skills and physical fitness (Graham, G. 2020) The overall goal behind physical
education is to teach children how to become and stay physically active therefore these two things
go hand in and. We have seen childhood obesity sky rocket over the few years. For example, from
2017-2018 we saw childhood and adolescent obesity (2-19 years of age) in the US reach 19.7%
that is about 14.4 million cases across the board (CDC, 2021, p.1).
Physical Education is just as important as other subjects based off the fact that children are
taught things that may have less emphasis in other subjects. Teaching children to believe in
themselves and set goals for themselves is a driving force of success in all aspects of their child
and adult lives. We teach them how to keep their minds and bodies healthy so they can reach all
of their potential.

categories: locomotor, nonmanipulative, and manipulative. This can be thought of as action words
they teach what the action is but not exactly how to do the action. On the other hand movement
