production worldwide. In the world today population is growing rapidly, change in climate that supports
agriculture and hence other science based methods are required in the agricultural sector. Today
agricultural scientists are required everywhere and due to the high demand one would never lack a job
after taking agricultural science as career. The career opportunities are expansive and the knowledge and
skills may be transferred in other fields of study like Agribusiness, agronomy etc. The Bureau of Labor
Statistics forecasts a 10.8% increase in the U.S. labor force between 2012 and 2022 due to job growth and
openings from retirement or other replacements. Employment opportunities in food, agriculture,
renewable natural resources, and environment occupations grow more than 5% between 2015 and 2020
for college graduates with bachelors or higher degrees. It is critical to understand that when studying this
course learners have make two choices during the course of their high school career. This includes the
subject choices and career choices. It is therefore very important that the students make informed choices
while they decide their career path. This will also help to change their attitude towards agriculture.
Agricultural economics and agribusiness management form part of the effective functioning of an
organization that is concerned with the agricultural and agribusiness sector. Agricultural economist’s
analyses and advice on the optimal use of production factors for the environmentally sustainable
production of food in an internationally competitive market. They have a broad knowledge of

agriculture, commerce and social science and can solve problems of agricultural development, marketing
and finance, agricultural policy and consumption affairs; agricultural sales and marketing; brokerage;
market research; international trade and market development; public relations; food manufacturing;
processing; distribution and purchasing; and farm input industry.
The other aspect was on food technology which is the scientific study of the large-scale production,
processing and preservation of foods as well as the development and analysis of foodstuffs in industrial
food-processing facilities. With rapid population growth, new scientific and technological challenges arise
daily in a career that can lead to rich rewards and excellent job opportunities for both men and women.
Jobs like Consumer advisor, food promotion consultant, customer service manager and technical
representative may also be offered under this career. Qualified food technologists are employed in
industrial food manufacturing concerns, such as bakeries, beverage manufacturers (soft drinks, beer and
wine), bottling plants, canning companies, dairies and meat processors. They are involved in production,
quality assurance, and product development. Research opportunities exist in companies, as well as in
research institutions.
