What steps would you take in deciding whether or not to cross train lab technicians as x-
ray technicians?
In considering cross-training of lab technicians as x-ray technicians, the first step to take
is to evaluate the legal and regulatory implication regarding this approach. It is important to
consider whether lab technicians may be legally allowed to practice as x-ray technicians through
cross-training. In this regard, the laws and regulations about the practice of lab-technicians and
x-ray technicians will dictate whether a lab-technician crossed trained as x-ray technician can be
legally allowed to practice (Decker & Townes, 2016). Another important step to consider is
whether the cross-training of lab technician will enable the individual to practice more
efficiently. Cross-training lab technician as x-ray technician would mean the individual is
assuming more responsibilities. This may impact on the level of employee job performance.
What are the negative and positive financial considerations in making this decision?
The decision to cross-train lab-technician as x-ray technician has both negative and
positive financial consideration. The positive financial aspects of this decision are that it will
allow the organization save the cost of training or hiring new x-ray technicians externally as the
lab technician will assume the responsibilities of the x-ray technician and the cost of internal
training may be low (Decker & Townes, 2016). In most cases, cross-training is on the job, and
this is often time cost saving to the company as compared to external sourcing or recruiting and
training. The negative financial aspect of this decision is that the cost of training lab-technician
