Differences between Qualitative and Quantitative Research
Basically, the major differences include:
Qualitative research is an investigative research-based, mainly is used to gain knowledge
of the underlying opinions, motivations as well as reasons. It aims at bringing insights for
problems by helping to develop hypothesis and ideas for quantitative research. The qualitative
research also uncovers trends in opinion and thoughts and diving deeper into the specific
problem. Methods used in collecting data differ from semi-structured to unstructured, such as
focus interviews, observations and single interviews (Brannen, Julia, 2017).
On the other hand, quantitative research quantifies the problem to generate numerical
data used in statistics. Also, it enumerates opinions, attitudes, behaviors among other variables;
and then generalizes outputs from the population samples. Unlike qualitative research,
quantitative research relies on measurable data in uncovering patterns and formulating facts.
