Module 4 Course Project 2
Literature Review: Role of Substance Abuse in Elder Abuse
Methods
Safeguards to Protect Human Participants
The research is qualitative and inclines to respond to the increased role of substance
abuse in elder abuse. The research indicates an increased dimension of elder abuse in
America. It considers research in how elder abuse is associated with ethics and how it can
get controlled. The study follows a specific path of contacting the elders under abuse and
those that have not been abused. It encourages open and voluntary participation by
describing the nature of the program to the participants. It provides standards of safeguards
that will get considered in the project. It then addresses proposed participant recruitment,
privacy and data protection, and participants’ safety. The research goal is to support the
reduction of substance abuse in elder abuse and consider further research on managing
widespread elder abuse in the community.
The distinct ethical guidelines that will get deployed to ensure the protection of
participants includes multiple modalities. All participants' anonymity will be protected as
disclosure stands to incorporate the fear and holding back of data and performance. Another
way of minimizing the risks associated with the participants is obtaining informed consent.
It is essential to let the participants understand the need and appreciation of their
participation towards the project's success. The project is a control activity, and the need to
involve active participants is critical. When designing the research, the safeguard of avoiding
any deceptive practices is necessary. It is elemental to understand that the research activity
must revolve around openness and integrity.
It is also mandatory to consider the scope of offering the participants conducive terms
that propagate the element of withdrawing from the research project at will. By following
these standards, the project stands to get efficient and achieve the set objectives. Generally,
through the consent of an IRB, the research gets approved, and this fosters its completion.
The primary component of considering the above modalities entails providing the
participants with the necessary knowledge on what must get encountered during the research.
