CRIMINAL COURT SYSTEM 2
Crime is the act by an individual or a group of people that is not right according to the set
law. Crime is punishable by the authority of the area or state, which it is committed. Crimes are
harmful acts to a person, a group of people or even to the state. A criminal is an individual who
does against the law. A criminal does not only refer to murderer, thief or rapist. Criminals refer to
all acts that are contrary to the law that governs the state (Hagan, 2016). Criminal justice is the
practices or institutions meant for upholding the law and deterring crimes. The government
institutions are responsible for enforcing the laws of the state and punishing the criminals
accordingly to deter other people from committing crimes.
If one is found guilty of committing a crime in a court of law for disobeying the
regulations of the state, then he or she is a criminal. For instance, a man was charged in a court
for not paying taxes on the imported goods. The court found him guilty and forced him to pay a
heavy fine. Justice is essential in the court systems as it ensures equality (Justice, 2014). Innocent
persons are acquainted while the guilty ones are punished to mitigate crime.
The judges and magistrate consider the evidence and the acts of the accused, follow what
the law states and ensure justice to all the involved parties. If one commits a crime but has a valid
reason for the actions, then he or she is not considered a criminal. Even though the acts are wrong
he or she can account for them. For instance, if a person kills another while defending himself,
then he is not a criminal.
