EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE 2
Leaders are a vital investment for any given organization since they have the potential to
impact on the organizational success. Leaders influence people with the organization, and
through their influence, they drive result either positively or negatively. Leaders are expected to
have a high level of emotional intelligence since this helps them identify well with people and
provide exceptional leadership (Ciarrochi & Mayer, 2013). My emotional intelligence
assessment revealed that I am high in emotional intelligence. This reflects my high level of self-
knowledge and self-awareness which is the foundational competency in emotional intelligence.
From this assessment, it is clear that I have a high level of emotional intelligence and this is a
fundamental factor for organizational success as I can get along with others through self-control.
It should be noted that emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and manage your emotions
and those of others more effectively (Ciarrochi & Mayer, 2013). Emotional intelligence is thus a
key consideration for effective leadership since it is vital in decision-making within the
organization.
As a public health leader, I require emotional intelligence so as to enable me to make
rational decisions that can help in improving the health outcome of patients and communities.
Having a high level of emotional intelligence will thus allow me to get along with others more
effectively within the public health system. It is imperative to note that emotional intelligence is
the ability to manage your emotions and those of others (Nahavandi, 2014). In this regard,
having high emotional intelligence will thus enable me to be sensitive to the needs of all patients
and communities, and above all, it will allow me to be flexible to the changing healthcare needs
of communities (Nahavandi, 2014).
