Over the years, the need to improve the quality and safety of services offered to patients has been
of the essence. They saw the development of quality and safety competencies for nurses
following cases of deaths which could have been easily avoided. Of the key competencies,
developments were the patient-centered care and teamwork and collaboration among healthcare
professions in respect to the nursing profession. According to research, it is evident that patient-
centered care, as well as teamwork and collaboration, lead to improved patient outcomes and
quality of care. Evidence has proved that most patient-centered and teamwork and collaborations
are key to achieving success in the organization. All this is fostered by communication between
different healthcare professions, patients, as well as family members.
