Small Bookstore Expansion
I have been approached and assigned a project as a consultant for a bookstore that would like
to expand on the services they can offer to their customers. We would like to reach out with our
“nerdier” customers, typically between the ages of 20-35, who enjoy mystical adventures and having a
good time with their friends. We have noticed that several of our customers love the setting of
bookstores, however, ours does not really have the space they would prefer within the store to
hangout. With some small modifications, we should be able to draw in a few more customers who will
be attracted to what we will be offering.
We want to be able to open a special D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) section for people to rent
out weekly for no cost. We would like to be able to accommodate for such activities and give our
customers a special setting for their adventures. We have seen that several customers who enjoy our
bookstore also enjoy sitting around at our smaller tables trying to enjoy their time together. We want to
have a special room built into the bookstore that will have a mystical setting with the design, maybe
including a projector or something that will allow them to change the settings as needed for their
adventures. With that in mind, the bookstore will most likely need an upgraded electrical system capable
of handling the projector, and an internet connection handy in case they need to lookup some settings to
further help the mood. I think
everyone will be impressed with these new ideas and how they can help draw in the customers.

With the changes we would like to make to the bookstore, I do not see much competition from
other businesses. Most of the time, people tend to use their homes, typically a basement, for their game
settings. While that is a suitable situation, some people prefer to get out of the house and really immerse
themselves into the adventures. This addition would not only set the customers up for success, but the
bookstore would have a competitive edge over everyone else including this room into the building.
Networking Explained
Professional networking is a process where a business can build on their professional
relationships. This process can be between businesses or even the executives of the businesses. The
main goal of a network is to establish a connection with other people within your profession or
industry that can be mutually beneficial. The biggest benefit that can come from a professional
network with another individual or business is that you can do a favor for them, and they can do a
favor for you. Overtime, this will build that relationship where your businesses can potentially turn to
each other for help from time-to-time.
As a consultant, there are several different places and processes one could use to further setup
their professional networks. Nowadays, you can use a platform called LinkedIn, that can help an
individual build on their professional networking, along with other social media platforms. Social Media
is probably the easiest and biggest way for individuals to not only build their resumes, but also build
those professional relationships with others that can be mutually beneficial. Keeping in touch with the
contacts and relationships you create is probably the best process and practice you can exercise. Don’t
just contact them whenever you need them, make sure they understand you’re investing in the
relationship, this will only help your profile.
Negotiation Techniques
The article I chose for Negotiating techniques is “12 Essential Negotiation Strategies for
consultants”. This article tackles a few different things about negotiations for consultants because it gives
some back story to the topic that the reader may be able to relate to. Once they go through the backstory,
