GOOD TEAM DYNAMICS
1
Human beings are social structures often organized into teams while undertaking daily activities.
The social nature of human beings shapes the dynamism of teams. Haynes (2012) defines teams
as a group of individuals governed by formal and informal structures, norms and values to realize
a common purpose. Haynes notes that team undergoes a development stage and uses the typology
of human beings life to demonstrate the evolution of team activities. McShane (2013) demonstrate
that teams undergo five main stages of development: forming, storming, norming, performing and
adjourning. Some of the changes that Haynes notes in teamwork include; interpersonal interactions,
leadership, communication structures, roles and power structures. Such dynamism makes it
imperative to have a clear understanding of the foundation of team dynamics for the organization
to have effective teams.

compensation that would discourage free riding due to the crowding out effect, intrinsic motivation
can be realized with non-material benefits to the team members. Creating team cohesion that
makes the people develop a sense of belonging and social identification results to a commitment
to teams’ goals (Levi, 2015)
Another dynamics that establishes good teams the collective power dynamic. Rotational leadership
makes the team members feel rewarded and appreciated. This approach also creates a culture of
responsibility among the teammates as they would create interdependence with the teammates.
With non-rotational leadership, the challenge of unconsciousness is bound to occur where the
person in leadership does not appreciate the worth of the teammates. This would result in inside
conflicts that negatively affect the team performance. Rotational leadership acts as social influence
tactics that entail appreciating members of a team as peers rather than superiors and subordinates.
Explicit methods that use pressure result are perceived as manipulative and result to resistance and
conflicts as opposed to cooperation. On the other hand cooperative tactics result to support,
inspiration and productivity among the teammates. While traditional leaders adopted
