Assignment:

Davey says, “It is at the point of choice that your ability to be strategic is finally tested.” (p.111) In light

of what Davey has said, think about past major decisions you have made. Have your decisions proven to

be sound/correct. Discuss your decision/s and explain why you think it was or was not a sound/correct

decision.

We make a number of decisions during our lives, and we never fully know what the

appropriate reaction is until the decision has been reached in its entirety. A number of good

decisions have been made over my brief 21-year career, including competing in culinary

competitions, winning Guy Fieri's scholarship, and working as a cashier at Chick-fil-a. However,

I have made some terrible decisions in the past, such as not saving enough money or purchasing

expensive vehicles that I did not need, but I do not believe that this will ever dissuade me from

my current course of action. Making these decisions is an unavoidable part of life, and until I

make the wrong decision, how am I to know what the right decision is?

When it comes to making smart, sound, or accurate judgments, they always begin the

same way: by outlining the advantages and disadvantages. To be honest, when I was in high

school, I was obsessed with cooking and wanted to learn more about it and see where it might

take me. As a sophomore, I enrolled in a cooking class and developed a strong relationship with

my Hospitality Teacher, Mr. Brandler. He was a witty and intelligent gentleman who possessed a

greater passion for cooking than anybody I've ever met. He adored teaching it and was astounded

by the ease with which people could learn to cook from him. I competed in two culinary

competitions with him through Pro Start, the National Restaurant Association, and CRAF. And I

continued to compete at two more restaurants, Lawry's Prime Rib and Fleming's Steak House,

where I learnt so much from the chefs I worked with. We had a great time, and it was then that I
