WHAT IS HUSKY’S STRATEGY? 2
What is Husky’s Strategy?
Question one: What is Husky's strategy? Why has the company been so successful in
the period before the recent problems?
The primary strategy for Husky has been to invest in research and development and
innovation. Through this strategy, the company has been able to offer unique and high quality
products and at the same time gained much competence. This strategy was initially reflected
in its first injection molding machine. The machine was able to make molds at high speed.
Quality and speed were the main factors pushing its success. Additionally, the company was
also able to adopt the fully integrated system which was able to perform differently and better
while compared to the two steps systems which were constituted by the machine. The
integrated system was able to mold separately. The company experienced a crisis but
experienced significant innovations after the late 1970's which saved the company from
bankruptcy. Another important strategy includes selling parts to other manufacturers of
equipment such as robotic devices and hot runners. The company also capitalized on having a
good relationship with the customers. It aimed at offering more than a single vendor of
equipment. More than providing the product, husky provided more services such as training,
producing turnkey factories and integrating production systems. It made this possible through
the use of its highly trained and product knowledgeable sales people.
Before its recent problems, the company has been quite successful. The main reason
for this success was its focus on a specific product, i.e., the injection machinery. The high
machine quality earned customers high quality as there were few defects. This enhanced
customer's long term saving. It was far much better than that of the competitors. Another
major reason for its success has been its great capacity to adapt to new demand as well as
getting updated on what the competitors are doing.
