Market Segments
The details of the segments within the Indian market were singled out with their
various products, price ranges, consumer requirements and specific features identified. The
Indian market can be divided into six market segments including the entry-hatch, mid-hatch,
premium-hatch, Sedan, SUV/MUV and van. The price for the various market segments
ranged from 200,000 to 2.5 million with the entry-hatch having the least price range of
between 200,000 and 300,000 and the luxury sub-segment of the sedan market segment is the
one with the highest price that ranged from 2.5 million upwards. Consumer requirements for
the entry-hatch were simply functional and basic, but the complexity of the consumer
requirements changed with the changes in the market segment.

The market for passenger cars in India has been on the rise since 2008/09 with the
total number of cars sold in 2008/9 being 1,551,200 and those sold in 2012/13 being
