Reasons for dysfunction within a team discussion
Dysfunctions of a team are occurrences, which show that there is no common
understanding within a group that is caused by a factor or factors. Dysfunction, therefore, focus on
derailing the key purpose of the team since it is significantly detrimental to the overall development
process within a given team. A well-engaged team is supposed to focus on key issues and thus
make decisions as a group since they can effectively understand each other. Therefore, there are
different reasons, which can effectively create an understanding about the various reasons for team
dysfunction.
Lack of trust among members of a team is one of the reasons, which may create a
dysfunction within a team. In this case, the decision-making does not significantly focus on key
issues since every member reads mischief in another. The fear of conflict is another reason for
dysfunction within a team. It is very difficult for members of a given team to engage positively
and constructively when no one is willing to take on another member of the team for a constructive
and positive argument. Carelessness among members of a given team is another reason as to why
there may exist dysfunction within a team. Carelessness, therefore, is significantly and directly
linked to the commitment of members within a given team. Another reason for dysfunction in a
team is the leadership. Leadership is supposed to develop positive understanding among team
members but a situation where the leader employs strict leadership styles it becomes difficult to
have a clear and well-engaged team.
