ROLE OF ARTS EDUCATION
Introduction
Arts education is a vital aspect of each school's academic system. While people limit art
as only an articulation of one's talents, opinions, emotions, and values, in reality, art transcends
both expression and creativity. Studies have shown for years that art is intimately linked to
virtually everything that we as a nation desire for our children and demand from our educational
system: academic achievement, personal and social growth, emotional well-being, democratic
participation, and equal opportunity (Smith, 2009). In this paper, I will reflect on the crucial role
of arts education in the contemporary world. Arts education must remain in the curricula of
various institutions worldwide, as it holds a promising future for the betterment of educational
systems.
Psychology
The most prominent advantages that arts contribute to students are psychological well-
being and intellectual, social, and personal development. Artistic students, regardless of the art
form they engage in, are more comfortable expressing themselves and exploring their unique
identity, which allows them to find their purpose and helps them become goal-oriented so they
can see the fruit of the efforts exerted in their craft. Different areas of intelligence are enhanced
through arts education. I was once a student myself, and being involved in the arts helped me
succeed academically. I witnessed how me, and other art-engaged students have better academic
performance than the others. The skills we learned and developed from arts education enabled us
to fully utilize our potential as students. To this day, many studies focus on how integrating arts
in education is an effective way to help students enhance their critical thinking skills, language
literacy, and their overall manner of perceiving and evaluating things. Indeed, the skills and
literacy enriched through arts are not limited to art-related abilities, as it also enhances one's
