Parents Can Be Partners in Supporting the Learning of Their Children (Epstein 2011)
Parents are among the most influential people in their children's life. Children have
grown up relying on their parents to provide, protect, and care for them in various ways since
their birth. However, there comes a time when the child is old enough for the parent to
collaborate with others involved in the child's life. Many scholars have emphasized the necessity
of parents collaborating with instructors in their children's development and education.
Numerous researches have also backed theories that excellent cooperation between schools,
parents, and communities is critical when aiming for high academic accomplishment (Đurišić &
Bunijevac 2017). As a result, parents are critical partners in ensuring the success of their
children.
The chapter has discussed numerous reasons why parents play an important part in their
children's education. One factor that jumps out is that this collaboration will improve
comprehension of a student's behavior in school by learning about their home environment.
Comprehending a child's environment is critical in knowing how to deal with them, both
psychologically and physically, rather than simply imposing courses of action without truly
understanding the basis of a child's conduct. This is because some students are exposed to really
abusive and unsettled home environments, which may include issues such as marital problems,
alcoholic abusive parents, and so on, which drains their concentration in school and thus their
performance. Having this partnership can be a great foundation to ensuring a student's success.
Should parents be forced to be honest about their home status to their child’s teachers?
