Introduction
Caramelo in a novel developed by one of the finest authors Cisneros. The novel follows
the personal issues that the society makes them visible to women folks as well as cultural
differences that exist between the Mexican and the United States citizens despite being neighbors.
Her life is full of tragedies, and thus she asserts that the storyline of Caramelo is based on real
issues that women are exposed to in the society where they do not have significant control over
their destiny. This consideration within the novel, therefore, provides a significant understanding
of some key themes, which are developed using fictions characters to advance the key messages
that she sought to pass to her audience.
The understanding of the novel is based on the understanding of the key underlying issues,
which are significant in creating an enabling environment where different cultural identities can

Cultural issues are still a significant problem even in the current society where one group feels that
