CULTURAL DIVERSITY 2
Cultural Diversity Kansas City
I had heard about this magnificent city, popularly known as a flyover city, but never had
it ever crossed my mind that my legs would one day step there, until when my dad told us that
we would spend our holiday there. Kansas, as it is officially known, is one of the largest cities in
the United States with a very high population. The reason for the high population is availability
of jobs. The city has many industries and diverse businesses. The other reason that would explain
the high population is; the cost of living is low. We had read in books and watched on television
the flourishing art scene of the city and I could not wait to be there. However, the greatest
experience one gets to enjoy in Kansas is the cultural diversity. I had heard it said that if one
wanted to know how people from different cultural background behave, they should visit Kansas
City. We experienced variety of languages, food, religion, ways of dressing, cultural ceremonies
like marriage, birthday and many more.
The holiday days flew. We stayed there for a month and it seemed like a week. We left
wondering when such an opportunity would come again. The first place we visited was the scene
of art in form of hand-crafted items. We discovered that different communities have different
styles of crafting. We learnt so much from the crafted items some of which displayed how the
indigenous people dressed. There were also drawings where different people displayed cultural
life and it was very educative and beautiful. We also visited the tourist sites where different
communities entertained the visitors with their cultural dances and songs. They danced with so
much vigor that we couldn’t help but join them in the dancing. The dancers from different
communities were so many that we took more than a week and still did not cover the entire
communities.
