Haier Group Corporation is a home appliance and consumer electronic multinational company
having its Headquarters in Qingdao, China. It was formed in 1984 by the founder and CEO
Zhang Ruimin. A company going far is usually characterized by three qualities, these are; the
customers of the company, the focus on the operational excellence intensity of the company and
the continuous innovation the company has. Characterizing Haier Group and its industry
according to these qualities we find that, firstly, the main customers of the company are all over
the world. They include Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia where it opened large production
facilities in these countries in 1996. North America is also another marketplace having around 5
manufacturing facilities in the U.S, Mexico, and Canada, commissioned in 2002. Pakistan and
Jordan are sources of target markets also commissioned in the years 2002 and 2003 respectively.
Haier also has five target markets in five countries in Africa; Egypt, Algeria, South Africa,
Nigeria and Tunisia (Duke, A., Jacob, H., Lemmens, C., & Jintao, T. (2012))
Haier is known for its products diversification through continuous innovation. This is why it has
opened five Research and Development (R&D) centers in Europe, Japan, China, Australia, and
in the United States. It has also opened an online platform providing a global environment where
people and resources can interact and come up with new innovations that the company can use.
This has put Haier in a better position as compared to other companies since they take into
consideration the customers tastes and preferences during their innovation process. The operation
excellence of Haier has been steered by Zhang Ruimin who has focused on product quality
control. He decided to venture into production of expensive high-quality refrigerators,
dominating the market since they were the only quality products in 1984 out of the 300
companies in China. Afterward, the company diversified and it has raised its revenue from $1.4
