Benchmarking Honda and Toyota
Introduction
In business, benchmarking refers to the process of comparing one’s activities of other
processes of the business to the best practices of other companies. Important aspects of
benchmarking are cost effectiveness, time and quality (Boxwell Jr, Robert J 1994).
Benchmarking is very essential in trying to compare and contrast business practices in order to
streamline business operations of the other firm; which appears not being at the same level to the
other giant. Benchmarking is the cornerstone of attaining a competitive advantage of one firm to
the other. This article is addressing benchmark of Honda Company Limited and Toyota
Brief profile of Honda
This is a Japanese multinational corporation that manufactures products such as
motorcycles, power equipments and aircrafts among other important automobiles. It has been in
the automobile industry since the year 1959, having being under stiff competition from Toyota,
Nissan, and Ford among key giants in automobile machines.
Honda improvement needs
Following its economic incapacitation in the United States of America, Honda’s car sales
dropped by 7% in the year 2011. This is was due to stiff competition in the market by other
giants such as Toyota. This company needs to improve on its marketing strategies of the various
products it distributes on the globe. Poor product display is what led to this immense in product
sale depreciations (Boxwell Jr, Robert J 1994).
