Hazmat refers to Hazardous Materials and Items, and it relates to the occurrence of such
materials as well as items in a particular area. Currently, Athens, Georgia has managed to
implement effective waste material management strategies, and this is commendable. However,
there is a considerable amount of household hazardous waste that is disposed of annually. Some
household products in Athens can be considered dangerous, and these include pesticides, drain
cleaners, used motor oil, transmission fluid, stains and fertilizers ("What is Waste Management

have been on a rapid rise in the area include household disposables such as flashlights and
alkaline batteries, and these may cause a considerable threat to the environment. Corrosive
chemicals such as mercury and lead also exist, and there has been a rapid increase in medical
waste items in the environment as well. All these waste materials can be located in Athens and
strategies for handling these materials are of much significance.
Certain procedures have ensured special handling of emergency waste materials in the
area. One of these methods is use of landfills which is focused on burying the waste products in
the land. Combustion is another method of handling emergency waste products, and it involves

approach that is often used to dispose of waste, and it involves the use of eclectically charged or
ionized gas. Composting is another method of waste management, and it includes the turning of
