TYPE IA SUPERNOVAE
Dark energy is an unknown form of energy, but is observable on the basis of acceleration and
expansion of the universe (1). Planck mission team concluded that the observable universe
contains 26.8% dark matter, 68.3% dark energy and only 4.9% ordinary matter (2, 3).
There are quite a few interesting and remarkable theories providing evidence for the existence of
dark energy. The most prevalent and widely held data providing such evidence are based on
cosmic microwave background, observational Hubble constant and Supernovae. However, the
most scientifically convincing observations, in my opinion, are based on Supernovae phenomena
in our universe. Thus, I have chosen to describe in detail evidence for dark energy using data
provided by cosmologists based on Supernovae.
Type Ia supernovae are binary systems, in which two stars orbiting one another. The importance
of Supernovae is due to one of its highly energetic, but small star members called a white dwarf.
The other star varies from a giant star to an even smaller than a white dwarf (4, 5). A white dwarf
