One of the most valuable lessons learned about principles of effective communication is
that choosing your medium of communication is a critical decision in effective communication
in a business or organization. As the manager in charge of communications or as a staff member,
one needs to know the audience he/she is responding to as the medium used is a determinant
factor on whether the ideas being communicated will be retained in the mind of the audience. For
example, when dealing with a group of people from the financial sector who appreciate numbers,
it is important to use smart excel in ideas' presentation. The second valuable lesson is being
passionate while communicating your ideas and message to the audience. This should be a
natural quality which appears in a good communicator. The sense in this principle is to avoid a
bogus and boring attitude which drains away the attention of the audience. Apart from explaining
your idea correctly, you should make your audience notice that you are in love with the idea
which will boost their confidence in accepting your ideas. For example, when launching a new
product in the market, you should be excited enough and even demonstrate the usage procedure
of the product before your audience to make them feel your opinion on the new product
(Blundel, 2008).
One of the most valuable business writing lessons is clarity of the purpose for writing. A
business writing, either in the form of a letter, article journal or memo should be clear and
straight to the objective to avoid time wastage for the reader perusing through unnecessary issues
which are not part of the main objective. Business people are always time cautious and will
waste a little time reading unclear writings. For example, when writing an official business letter,
be straight to the main issue rather than including unnecessary greetings and introduction. If
needed, they should be as brief as possible. The second lesson on business writing is paying
