Multicultural Issues and Ethical Dilemma
Part A
The success of every student is primarily determined by several multicultural factors which play
an integral role in their growth and development. This essay gives a depth discussion on
multicultural factors and manner in which it has affected student education. The factors include
race, language, ethnicity and family structure.
Race
Regarding race, it is important to note that racism in the classroom still exists (Goldenberg 118).
Schools have been instructed to have the anti-racist policies as well as making training provision
of equality legislation to the teachers. In most cases, a majority of the teachers are often whites,
and they tend to have some conflicts with blacks and Caribbean races. The feeling makes a black
student put no effort in learning given that he consider the teachers as racists. He won’t bother
striving for education and participating actively in class compared to the white students. If the
students does not make an effort to learn, his performance in classroom drops hence negatively
affecting his class development.
Language
The ethnic minorities often hail from different backgrounds. In cases whereby a student is a
second language speakers, the learning of English is often hard. The teacher in most cases may

class. The student may end up being penalized from class. In this case, inability to adequately
understand English language shall negatively affect the student achievement in class.
Ethnicity
Success and failure of a student in class may be determined by the ethnicity of the individual
(Alderman 2013). If the teacher believes that individuals from a certain race are not bright, then
less effort is channeled towards teaching them. It is due to the low expectation of the teacher
from students of that ethnic background. Through this, the educational achievements of the
student are negatively affected. On the other hand, if individuals of a certain ethnic group are
considered as bright, the teacher will spend lots of effort helping them out. Through this, these
students perform well in their studies.
Family structure
The composition of a family plays an integral role in the performance of a child in class
(Edelstein, Wolfgang, Monika and Eberhard 172). The intactness of a family has the greatest
positive influence on the child in school. Single parents are often seen as having less time to
balance between meeting the daily demands and making follow-ups of the performance of their
children in school. Children between the age of 12 and 17 who live with single parents have a
higher rate of getting suspended from school as compared to their peers who are from a full
family. On the other hand, 6-11-year-old children who happen to have a single parent are most
likely to repeat a grade unlike those from a two-parent family. It is because most attention is not
given to their growth and development both at school and at home. Through this, their
achievement in class is hindered.
To successfully manage multicultural barriers of student achievement, I will educate both
the students and teachers on the importance of appreciating one's culture. Through this, the black
