Mission statement defines the present purpose of the organization whereas vision statement of an
organization defines the ideal future which is credible yet not readily attainable. “An effective
mission statement doesn’t just describe products or services; it captures people’s idealistic
motivations for why the organization exists” (Daft, 2014). Core values and core purposes are
often conveyed through the mission statement whereas vision statement makes broad appeal as
they encourage hope and faith for the future. “Effective visions are characterized by conciseness,
clarity, abstractness, stability, future orientation, challenge and desirability or ability to inspire”
(Kantabutra, 2010).
Strategic vision as well as strategic action is important for effective leadership. A leader
can’t be successful if he or she has no strategic vision or low strategic actions because if one is
weak on implementing strategic actions then the vision would be unattainable and it would
remain a dream and if one has no visionary power then also the strong strategic actions would be
of no use. Frankly speaking, according to my perceptions I find myself better in being visionary
as I can always dream for something big but only lacks behind in making strategic actions to
make those dreams come true. To fulfill the vision it requires constant implementation of
strategical actions. I start my dreams with high tide of strategical actions but soon it slows down
which keeps me from transforming my dream into reality. This is why I find myself better with
strategic visions rather than strategic actions.
