COMPLEX SYSTEMS 2
Complexity theory is a way through which an organization can be understood for
effective management. In healthcare management, it is an approach that is utilized to improve
health and address complex challenges in this field. The individual agents in this approach work
in ways so as to achieve a collectively desired goal whenever the method is applied. The
complexity theory also denotes the underlying aspects of systems and the people who employ
them. According to Sanger and Giddings (2012), the complexity theory is a theoretical
framework that models patterns in the nursing profession, aiding practitioners in the issuance of
competent and efficient care to their patients. The method enables nurses to apply theoretical
concepts to their work by using them metaphorically. The complexity in theories is not a
predetermined standard, but rather, based on an individual’s understanding regarding the relevant
concepts. Social workers, such as nurses, are exposed to a myriad of elaborate systems in the
course of their work. Biological, psychological, and social factors that affect humans play a
fundamental role in social work, and the interactions are even the more intricate. The complexity
of this system applies in the deviation from the accepted standard of right and wrong.
The complexity theory has different applications depending on the environment in which
it is used. Therefore, the lack a universal standard demands that practitioners make use of the
system to the extent that their requirements are met in the work environment. Some situations in
the nursing profession that demand the use of the complex are those where the issue, such as a
disease, requires some approaches and solutions to alleviate. One such body condition is
diabetes. Diabetes incorporates numerous variables that contributed to a system that is hard to
define or predict (Hellen & Geyer, 2009). It is more than the control of blood-sugar through
medication and a change of lifestyle. Rather, diabetes is an alteration in people’s lives that
demands the balance and management of changes and new boundaries in a bit to adapt to a new
