Quantitative Research Design
Quantitative research is a type of research utilized in the quantification of a problem
through the generation of numeric data which is then transformed into usable information.
Therefore, quantitative research utilizes objective measurements and the statistical analysis of
data with the use of computational techniques (Creswell, 2013).
Examples of quantitative research design
Two examples of quantitative designs include descriptive design and correlational design.
Descriptive statistics is utilized in the description of the population characteristics. Therefore, the
descriptive design depicts the population characteristics accurately. On the other hand,
correlational design is utilized in determining whether two variables are interrelated. For
instance, the design can be used to determine whether a change in one variable corresponds to a
change in the other variable (Mitchell & Jolley, 2012).
A potential quantitative research study in nursing and the design to use
A potential quantitative research study in nursing is the study of the interrelationship
between busy hospitals and the rates of readmission. The quantitative design to use here is the
correlational design (Mitchell & Jolley, 2012). It will help in ascertaining whether busy hospitals
are more likely readmit patients. This can be applied in the nursing practice by guiding the level
of activity that is acceptable in the hospital operations to ensure that quality care is enhanced.
Value of quantitative research to the science, knowledge, and practice of nursing
