Bilingual Teachers
How many people in the audience speak three or more languages? How many speak two?
Is there need to know more than two languages in the America we live in today? We live in a
society that is increasingly bilingual by the minute and this is why there has been lately a need
for bilingual teachers and there is actually a shortage of them in schools.
As we interact with different people in our lives we will feel the need to learn a new
language and at the moment Spanish, German and French are at the top of the list of relevant
choices for a second language. One can choose to learn all these or just one depending on the
need and the interest that they possess in the language. Spanish is on the grow however in
America and this is mostly the choice.
It is not just for the knowledge but there are a lot of benefits that come with bilingual,
better opportunities too: some of the greatest business people and entrepreneurs, leaders that we
know speak several languages and they have attributed some of their success to being
multilingual. If not so, they recognize the importance of being multilingual and it has in a way
contributed to their growth in different areas.
Mark Zuckerberg, who we all know as the co-founder of one of the most popular social
media platforms can fluently speak English and Mandarin. Mandarin is one of the most popular
and most spoken language today with a billion plus native speakers. Think of the access of
people he can fluently speak and address in their native languages, knowing both English and
Mandarin. This has obviously opened more opportunities for him.
