I kicked off my career as an HR trainee at Sears Holdings Company 10 years ago two
months after my graduation ceremony at Harvard University. I worked there for two years before
I got an opportunity to work with BJ’s company as an assistant hr officer. I worked there for a
long time before moving to my current job at Safeway Company holding a position of hr
manager.

My job as an HR manager entails maintaining and enhancing the organization's human
resources through planning, evaluating and implementing the employee relations, human
resources policies, programs, and practices. The core components of my position involve
planning for change in the organization, overseeing training and development of employees,
ensuring health and safety in the organization and lastly recruitment and retention of new hires.
3. What did you do yesterday?
I was able to update the job requirements and job descriptions for all the positions that are
essential to our organization.
4. What experiences best prepared you for your job?
Before my current job, I had acquired many experiences and skills that are essential for
any hr practitioner. To start with, during my internship at Sears Holdings Company I was able to

maintain and update employee files and various training records. I was able to make placement
suggestions and in most times assisted the interviewing committee. The experience I got there
has enabled me to structure recruitment interviews with ease in my current position. To add on
this, I was able to help BJ’s company to open a new business branch in Maryland while working
as an assistant hr.I was able to work with senior management to create hr policies and
procedures. I believe I played a vital role in ensuring the successful launch of Los Angeles
branch office. That kind of experience and success has helped me to feel confident when
executing tasks in my current position.
5. Who depends on you?
Many stakeholders depend on my services regularly on their daily operations. First, am
required to update the director of human resources on a weekly basis on the progress of various
programs relating to human resources. Secondly, am required to update the general manager on
the stability of workflows and also notify him of the suggested changes in the workflows.Lastly,
am required to delegate duties to my assistant accountant and other employees as it may deem
required.
6. What do the people who work for you do?
I work most with the assistant human resource manager and two human resource interns.
The assistant human resource manager and hr interns' roles include assisting me with everyday
operations of the HR capacities and obligations, giving administrative and authoritative support
to Human Resource executives. They also process documentation of reports relating to personnel
activities such as staffing, recruitment, training and performance evaluation.Lastly, they assist in
Coordinating HR projects such as meetings, training, and surveys and other duties as they may
be required of them.
