PROFESSIONALISM AND HEALTHCARE

If I were a member of the board of trustees, I would support the decision to
revoke Dr. Henry’s medical staff membership and clinical privileges. Despite the
doctors' excellent skills in the field and high level of competence in medical care, his
inability to accommodate differences with other medical practitioners is problematic
to the overall hospital, the safety of the employees and creates unsuitable working
conditions. The act of shouting at other members is highly inappropriate and
unprofessional. This may lead to critical errors to people being shouted at. Nurses
may feel inadequate and may be affected psychologically, which may create
confusion and possible fatal errors. On the other hand, the failure to accommodate set
schedules under claims of incompetencies with Nurse Ross. Despite Dr. Henry’s
claim on the incompetence in the hospital and pointing out the issues in the hospital,
there are better means of solving such issues.
The ability of health practitioners is not only gauged through their expertise but
also their ability to work as a team and create better working conditions. Medical
practitioners are expected to work cohesively with their peers. If a health practitioner
is unable to work with other medical professionals, the tensions they create may lead
to errors and put the patients at risk (Moore, Everly & Bauer, 2016). Professionalism
is a remarkable aspect of healthcare. Actions such as shouting are not professional and
may result in errors in medical care. Communication with other team members must
be professional and held with respect; even when one makes a mistake, correct
channels or politeness should be used in and during the practice. The lack of proper
communication leads to incapability within a team, leading to incompetence and
inefficiency in healthcare delivery (McEwan et al., 2017). Arguably, Dr. Henry has
become ineffective as a team member and should not be allowed to work in the
hospital.
