Abstract
Ethical theories form a very critical part of the current criminal judicial system. Ethics
primarily form the basis that is employed in the criminal justice system to understand criminal
behaviors, activities, as well as criminal punishment. Ethical theories give the law its overall
meaning and without ethics, the law wouldn’t be dependable (Seligman & Royzman, 2003).
Many ethical theories have being deduced over the years, to help understand and interpret
criminal law in various areas of the criminal justice. The application of ethics through the ethics
theory not only benefits the criminal justice systems but the public as well as it ensures justice is
maintained at all levels. Among the various ethical theories that are applied in the criminal
justice systems, one of them is the hedonism ethical theory that is commonly employed by
various professionals in criminal justice system. Application of ethical theories is very critical in
the criminal justice systems as it ensures that all the public servants within the criminal justice
system carry out their duties as per the ethical standards in order to best benefit the public at
large. Since hedonism theory is concerned with understanding the criminal behaviors, its
importance regarding the criminal justice system is of critical value.
