Family and social environment play a vital role in any children’s growth and behavioral
changes if not well monitored by parents, the environment can shape up a child in a very negative
way. The family, in this case, involves childs parents and close family members including brothers
and sisters and other close relatives. The social environment refers to a child’s physical
surrounding, community resources and social relationships that are involved. The family plays an
important role in a child’s upbringing and are required to keep a closer look on how their children’s
is fairing on including types of social relationships that they have (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman,
2016).
Different parenting styles, therefore, have varying influence on a child’s behavior.
Authoritarian parenting is one of the significant parenting styles that is employed by most parents.
Parents establish rules which children are expected to follow without exception. In this method,
children are not involved in problem-solving since they are punished for breaking the set rules
(Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2016). This method of parenting instills fear in children and thus does
not have consideration of child behavior while growing up as long as they do not break the set
rules. Permissive parenting is another parenting style that parents tend to employ. It does not focus
on behavioral consideration of a child since parents are more lenient and are only involved in cases
that are more serious. This parenting technique gives a child a lot of freedom, which makes it
difficult to monitor child behavior (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2016).
The movie Mary Poppins played a very crucial role in teaching many parents better ways
to ensure that their children follow the right paths. Her strict nature had a positive influence on her
kids Jane and Michael who were very spoilt kids (Travers, 2013). Another significant character
in the movie is the stepfather movie with the character Jerry who does not know anything about
