To define and describe the association between intelligence and mindsets and provide
recommendations for designing an equitable test.
INSTRUCTIONS:
We are now far enough in the course where you should easily be able to relate prior concepts to
what we are currently learning. In this discussion, please relate material from previous modules
to this module:
1. Please take the free IQ test (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) What
type(s) of intelligence do you feel the test was trying to capture?
In my observation, it is fluid intelligence because there are more questions about abstract
reasoning and problem-solving. There are also items that try to capture crystallized
intelligence as it tests my knowledge about English vocabulary and geography.
Note: this exercise is to get you to become familiar with intelligence testing and should
not be taken to heart. If any feelings arise from taking the test, please email me.
2. How was your experience taking the test? Please discuss whether you thought the test
was easy or difficult and why, if there were any concepts you didn't understand (and
provide examples) and how you felt when you received your score.
It was a good learning experience as I felt like I was able to partially gauge my reasoning

confidence. I felt like the test should not be taken as the main basis of someone’s
intelligence level as it restrictive and has a lot of limitations in my opinion.
3. Provide two examples of how the test was culturally biased.
1. The test on vocabulary, this test can be culturally biased to non-native English
speakers. For example, if this test was given to a group of diverse students that
consists of native English speakers and non-native speakers, then the non-native
speakers could be in a disadvantage position. This argument also includes the
overall language used in the test.
2. The test asking to shuffle letters and the result is England, it also asked if it is an
animal, a city, or a country. This is culturally biased for people who does not
know much about western countries.
4. This question requires you to do some googling. After reading about the different theories
of intelligence and cultural differences in intelligence testing, how do you think
