Monarchy and Hereditary Succession
Monarchy and Hereditary Succession represents one of the unjust systems of power that
have ever befallen humankind. This paper seeks to explain the problems that Paine has with this
system of power. The paper will also explain how Paine’s document would have influenced the
Americans in deciding whether colonies should become independent or remain within the British
Empire.
Paine perceives Monarchy and Hereditary Succession as a system that subjects
individuals to significant inequalities. Noteworthy, the latter views monarchy and hereditary
succession as a system that lacks natural or religious basis. Paine argues that although being
male and female is established by nature while heavens determine good and bad, no supreme or
divine authority creates Kings and Subjects and the inequalities that exist between them.
Paine perceives monarchy and hereditary succession as the root cause of misery to
humanity. Interesting to mention, Paine indicates that before monarchy and hereditary systems
came into being, the world enjoyed much peace than ever. However, after the system was
introduced, the world has been torn to civil wars and rebellions. Paine notes Holland and
England as nations that have significant civil wars resulting from the monarchy and hereditary
succession systems of power.

Paine also views the system as sinful and ungodly. Important to mention, the latter argues
that there were no kings originally and that only God ruled the Jews. However, the Jews copied
the Monarchy system from heathens who were ungodly. Important to note, the fact that the
system was copied from heathens, then Paine argues that the system begun in sinfulness. In fact,
Paine indicates that God opposed the system through scriptural evidence.
Paine’s document would have influenced the Americans against remaining within the
British Empire. Noteworthy, Paine indicated that the monarchy and hereditary succession system
results to wars. Besides, the system may result in the foolish and unwise getting into power
thereby resulting in a bad leadership. Finally, Paine indicates that the system could result in the
betrayal of trust when a Regency acting on behalf of a minor king gets into power. Based on
these perspectives, then Americans would not choose to remain within the British Monarchy and
Hereditary system of power.
In summary, Monarchy and Hereditary Succession is an unjust system of power. The
system is not only ungodly but also has a sinful origin. Also, the systems result in injustices and
misery to the world. Next, the system results in civil wars while at the same time getting the
foolish and unwise rule the people. Based on these perspectives, the Americans would have
rejected the British Monarchy systems.
