Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before it reaches its gestation age. This
process is performed surgically or through medication. It results in the death of the foetus.
According to the world health organization, abortion can either be spontaneous or induced.
This paper focuses on induced abortion. The debate on abortion has existed for a long time.
Different states have been struggling with the question of legalizing abortion or not. Abortion
is immoral and should remain restricted to special circumstances. This paper focuses on
explaining why abortion should not be accepted in the society.
Women prefer to go through abortion for various reasons; first it could be as a result
of their circumstances. The situation may be difficult to raise a child properly and they opt for
an abortion. Second, the mother could be at a health risk. It is in a situation where either the
mother or the child can survive. In such a situation, most people prefer to save the mother.
Third, if a serious medical condition is detected in the foetus such as physical abnormality.
Abortion is a violation of the sanctity of life. Scientifically, Life begins when a foetus
is conceived (Naden 2008, p. 27). Terminating a pregnancy means ending the life of the
foetus. It can be equated to murder and it should be punishable. Abortion results in intentional
harm on another life. It is immoral and brutal because it denies a child a chance to life.
Abortion punished the unborn child. Punishment should be administered to the mother who
may have engaged in irresponsible behaviour that resulted in the pregnancy.
Abortion can result in medical complication for the woman. There is the risk of
haemorrhage that can lead to anaemia or even death. It can also cause major damage of the
cervix. It can result in miscarriages in the future because the cervix is important in sustaining
a pregnancy. It means that the woman involved may not be able to carry any other pregnancy
to term. It can also cause damage of the uterus. If the foetus is not totally removed from the
