ProMedica is a community-based, mission-driven health system, which incorporates
hospitals in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. It focuses on integrating physician
leadership into hospital management boards. Physician leadership has taken the course in many
areas, but there is laxity to agree on the measures to develop that are useful in harnessing
potential from the leaders. Stakeholders have put in place a new model of physician leadership.
Positions that have previously been held by individuals who get into position by people who like
them have been isolated for doctors who can connect with the workers and the kind of tasks in
the workplace.
Effective leaders can make informed decisions because they have emotional intelligence.
Physician leaders have the emotional connection with their work and juniors and are therefore in
a good position to make informed decisions. The ability of an active leader to manage
uncertainties makes them capable decision makers. The idea of servant leadership in physician
leaders creates a momentum for leaders to integrate into the system and manage the anticipated
difficulties in the area. By managing the primary service lines effectively, they affect dyad
relationships in a mutually beneficial method whereby the physician leader is in constant
cooperation with the administrator (U.S National Library of Medicine, 2016).
The article articulates an efficient way of running services at the workplace. Involving the
professionals in the system governance is essential since it improves service delivery. In my
professional work, I can include lower level technicians in the board membership and involve
them in decision-making. Involvement of the staff and choosing a leader in the workplace who
have an emotional connection with the work can effect change. Investing in high potential
leaders, harnessing their competencies and providing transition chances for the professional
