Analyze the Principle of Justice
Justice is the concept of moral righteousness that bases on a number of aspects such as
equity, fairness, natural law, religion, rationality, ethics, and law. Justice also incorporates the
administration of law as well as putting into consideration the inborn and inalienable rights that
all human beings and citizens of a country posses. All individuals within the society have equal
rights and as such, warrant equal protection from the law for their civil as well as common rights.
The administration and delivery of these rights should not discriminate on anyone based on any
concepts in existence, inclusive of culture, gender, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, color,
national origin, ethnicity, disability, religion, age, wealth and social status, as well as any other
characteristic that differentiates people from each other. This property of justice also incorporates
social justice in the administration and dissemination of law (Guido, 2010).
The following form the principles of justice, which every practicing nurse should adhere
to whenever carrying out their professional duties. These principles include equality, equity,

fairness, consistency, naturally, need, fair share, trust, fair play, and standing. As such, all these
principles of justice affect the decision making process of a nurse during an ethical dilemma.
This is a situation whereby the nurse is in dilemma about what decision to take and the effect that
the taken decision will have on the life or health of the patients in their hands. The patients
usually rely on the decisions made by their nurses and the right decisions made by the nurses
determine how well they recuperate or recover from their illnesses. The more an individual nurse
is faced with and ethical dilemma, the more the need to apply the ethical principles of justice in
order to come up with the right decisions (Pozgar, 2013).
The ethical principles of justice dictate that an individual has free access to all their rights
and privileges as outlined in the constitution, as well as, access equal provisions as well as
attendance in the during their admission in the hospitals for medical assistance. An ethical
dilemma that may arise in the professional practice of a nurse is a case whereby the patient wants
to take on a medical intervention to curing an illness or a disease, while in reality, a surgical
intervention is the best and the fastest way of containing the illness. As such, it becomes
impossible to convince the patient, as well as their family members to settle on the surgical
option as opposed to the medical option as this is the best way to overcome their illness and
assist their patient to recuperate faster (Tyler & Belliveau, 1995).
Another ethical dilemma arises when a nurse has two conflicting decisions to make at the
same time with ach decision taken violating either the laws of justice or the guidelines of hospital
operations. For instance, in a case whereby the nurse encounters an armed robber bleeding to
death from a wound caused by a gunshot, he or she is at a dilemma as to whether to admit the
robber to hospital and save his life, or to report him to the police for him to be caught and pay for
his heinous crimes. The best decision, according to nursing ethics as well as the principle of
