Argumentative Essay: Smoking In Public Places
Introduction
The issue of whether to criminalize smoking in public places has raised multiple
controversial arguments within the society of the United States of America, and the entire world
for a quite a long time. Different people have different feelings and opinions concerning this
whole matter of smoking in public places with some arguing for its criminalization, and others
upholding the practice. With that, the society has remained on cross roads over this practice
despite of an indisputable fact that smoking in public causes more harm to the society than good.
The proponents of the behavior of smoking in public places argue that smokers have their
fundamental rights of making personal decisions, and if anyone chooses to smoke should do it
without any restrictions whatsoever. This is an argument that many of the opponents of the
practice concur with; however, they insist that that the freedom of one person should not, deprive
another person’s freedom. Concisely, this implies that in as much as smokers have their rights to
smoke, their actions should not affect other people who live in the same environments with them.
Therefore, this paper will comprehensively analyze the main reasons for and against
smoking in public areas. As such, it enables the society to look at the entire issue of smoking in
public from a diverse dimension, a situation that consequently enhances more caution when
handling the matter.
