LEADERSHIP IN ORGANIZATIONS 2
Leadership and organizational behavior
Leadership and organizational behavior greatly interlink in any organization, they are
important and interdependent in achievement of purpose of the organization. Leadership can be
referred to as an act of leading a group of people or an organization while organizational
behavior is the study of effects of people or groups of people and the behavior organization
within an organizational setup (Phillips and Stanley, 2011). The aim of this study is to apply the
knowledge gained in the organization’s efficiency. Owing to the social influence bestowed on
leaders, they are able to guide and direct their followers to the common goals or purpose of the
organization. To achieve this, leaders require key competencies and skills that will enable them
develop healthy organizational behavior among their followers. This paper therefore is going to
analyze key skills or competencies based on leadership theories that can enable a leader to be of
healthy organizational character.
According to Phillips and Stanley (2011) success of leadership is based on the leader’s
capabilities to influence his or her followers. The ability to effectively influence people is a
leaders key competency, some people argue that this character can be acquired based on one’s
experience or can be inherited from ones parents as a trait. That argument aside, success of
leadership is primarily based on the strength of the character of a leader. Leaders with strong
character achieve sustainable leadership. Essentially, leaders should develop leadership practice
and maintain it to ensure their effectiveness. It is important for leaders to create goals and work
towards achieving them; however, it is as well essential for leaders to assume their leadership
position as this would negatively impact on the goals attainment. When it comes to relating with
his or her followers it is in order for leaders to embrace free and openness character.
