Scholarly Sources
The difference between the popular and scholarly publications is their intrinsic academic
value. Popular sources cover broad ranges of the topic while the scholarly narrows in a particular
topic in length and depth. Secondly, the popular sources offer an overview of a subject matter
that is not original; the scholarly contain unpublished research and developments in a particular
field. Thirdly, popular sources attract general readership while scholarly is intended for
specialists such as academicians. The fourth difference is that freelance writers write popular
sources while experts write scholarly. Finally, the publisher approves popular sources while
fellow scholars evaluate scholarly sources.
The articles I located from the university library were completely different. The scholarly
article has in-depth information about the digital divide compared to the popular article. The
popular source has just an overview that is not scientific proven. The scholarly article is reliable
because it offers statistics and the various percentages that relate to the digital divide. The
popular article is shallow as it offers just a theory about overcoming the gap. The primary
strengths of the scholarly article are in the content. The content is profoundly researched
compared to that is a popular article. This qualifies the scholarly article to be used in research.
The scholarly article has cues such as citations and bibliographies. This shows that what
is written has been researched. The vocabulary in the scholarly is for academicians compared
that popular source. It has volume number and is lengthy, which the popular article lacks. The
format of the popular source is just for the general readership.
