Taoism and Buddhism Discussion
There are various ancient religions and philosophies that play vital roles in the current
society. One of the popular religions and philosophies is Taoism which began in China. Taoism
has shaped Chinese and neighboring communities for more than 2000years. Taoism started
around 500 B.C, and it is based on the philosophical ideas of Laozi, who wrote the main book,
followed by Taoists (Phong & Van, 2020). Taoism provides instructions to its followers on how
to live peacefully with nature. Laozi is the founder of Taoism and author of Tao Te Ching, which
provides all beliefs and principles to be followed by other Taoists. Laozi is also seen as a
supreme deity in Taoism, and during the Tang dynasty, Laozi was worshiped as an imperial
ancestor. Taoists believe that practicing certain austerities and rituals can make them live forever

Taoists believe in deities such as The Jade Emperor, The First Principle, and the Three Pure
Ones (Phong & Van, 2020). Taoism advocates the balancing of life to achieve immortality
through Tao. In contrast, Buddhism believes that they are no superbeing who controls their lives
and everyone should seek the truth. Buddhists believe everything occurs due to changes, and
people should break away from the world ties to achieve peace in their lives. Karma is a common
principle in Buddhism which states that every action in life has consequences. Due to this,
Buddhists understand that any challenges they may come across are due to their past actions, and
