Race and Revolutionists
Nat Turner and John Brow are both pivotal personalities in American history. Both
Turner and Brown were prominent personalities who led slave revolts in Virginia and claimed
that they were God's emissaries destined to eliminate slavery in America. The article will go into
great depth regarding two heroic characters in American history.
Nat Turner, in my opinion, is a hero because he was one of the first persons to begin
fighting for liberation from slavery. He is a hero because he made that monumental step to fight
for freedom. Through his wide deed, Turner offered all slaves a chance to experience freedom
and revived their faith that they would be free one day. As a result, Nat Turner is a liberation
warrior since he assisted black slaves in fleeing the whites' houses, freeing them from the white
men's enslavement.
John Brown was an abolitionist leader in the United States who claimed he was "an
instrument of God" called up to end American slavery.
1
He was a strong proponent of violence in
the American abolitionist movement, believing that violence might aid in the abolition of slavery
in America. Brown thought that violence was justifiable. However, we may learn from John's
technique that a person might be on the right side of history and still make a terrible mistake.
Though Brown's intentions were intended at rescuing blacks from slavery, his Kansas killings
were unforgivable, his raids were unforgivable, and the war he started resulted in the deaths of
millions of people who were not required.
