Technology has rapidly changed alongside popular media. After the release of better
formats, the movie industry has had strong viewership within theaters. The evolution in the
movie industry is something to talk about. The industry moved from optical storage devices like
DVD to blue ray and now to online streaming. Netflix is an example of an online streaming
service that has experienced a huge transformation. The company was founded in the year 1997
by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph, a software developer.
The company took advantage of the high demand for video rentals since it was founded
during the era of DVDs. Initially, Netflix Inc. had the idea of renting DVDs to customers from all
places. The company became more than a market fad as more innovations kept on streaming in
line with the rental business. Without any further delay, the company opened internet commerce.
This was their perfect opportunity to meet the demands of the customers.
To foster the excitement of watching videos in the comfort of your home, Netflix started
streaming videos directly into the homes of clients. It was possible to watch directly from
televisions. Later, Netflix introduced other media for the transfer of information like PS3
consoles, Android phones, and Internet televisions. However, as the innovative plans got
implemented, the company faced various challenges.
Major challenges facing Netflix
One of the major challenges facing Netflix is stiff competition from other movie
streaming businesses like Amazon (Goetz, 2016). Netflix became a pioneer in the movie
streaming business owing to the fact that it was the first to introduce Subscription Video on
Demand (SVoD). The model packaged the content alongside syndicated shows for a monthly
