BANDURA’S CONCEPT OF SELF-EFFICACY 2
Bandura’s social cognitive theory of self-efficacy basically associates self-efficacy with
an individual’s belief to succeed. He also explains that belief in self is paramount in achieving
particular goals in life and that people who believe in their ability to navigate difficult situations
actually see difficult situations as challenges to be mastered rather than limitations (Montcalm,
2009). Bandura’s concept of self efficacy is very relevant to me in my pursuit of attaining my
terminal degree since it assures me that believing in myself and in my ability to navigate through
my studies is all I need to attain my terminal degree.
Mastering of content will play a major role in helping me improve my self-efficacy in
academic research and writing since it will give me the confidence and belief to improve my
writing. Vicarious learning which involves learning from other researchers and writers will also
play a major role in helping me improve my self-efficacy in academic research and writing.
