NURSING DISCUSSION QUESTION 2
It is not longer a secret that health education has become imperative. Based on this;
learning objectives are therefore required and can be gained through experience. As a registered
nurse; there are more than a few ways which health providers can or do design educational
programs to clearly articulate objectives to engage both patients as well as families (Huston,
2014). For example; one of the most reliable and accurate way is by first ensuring that the patient
or family member has received as well as understood the educational objectives presented.
The teach back method has been cited as one of the most effective and reliable way that
health providers design educational programs to clearly articulate objectives to engage both
patients as well as families (Edelman, In Mandle & in Kudzma, 2014). For instance; this can be
achieved by ensuring that after health providers have demonstrated to the patient or family how
to perform a task like giving insulin they teach them how to do it the next time and ensure that
they watch how the patient or family member does it (Edelman, In Mandle & in Kudzma, 2014).
By doing this; they will have demonstrated their knowledge as well as the ability to retain the
information and execute the task without difficulties. In addition; health providers can also have
families to recite the procedure as well as teach them to detect signs and symptoms of blood
sugar when high or low (Huston, 2014). Basically; the objective of this learning must indicate
what to expect or the outcome whereby the outcome will be patient being able to administer
insulin well and family member being able to read signs and symptoms of blood sugar levels
(Edelman, In Mandle & in Kudzma, 2014).
Another way which health providers design educational programs to clearly articulate
objectives to engage both patients as well as families is the “walk through”. This process
includes keeping comment cards in waiting rooms and asking patients and family members to go
through them, allowing them to help design programs to improve the completion of health care
