Environmental justice issues
Environmental justice is defined as the fair and worldwide accepted meaningful
involvement of people regardless of their income, level in the society, color, nationality, and race
with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws,
regulations, and policies (US EPA, 2021). However, environmental issues have been tabled since
1980 due to the realization that most industries and other disposal companies do injustices to the
environment. Some examples that may be considered environmental injustices include
deforestation, climate change, offshore drilling, and habitat fragmentation. These examples listed
are considered significant environmental issues because they have become a threat to individuals'
shelter and food, water, air, mental health, physical health, and some extent, the income level of
certain disadvantaged groups. As a result of these issues, there has been increased heat, extreme
weather events, poor air quality, and pollution, thus considered environmental justice issues
(Shultz et al., 2020). Efforts have been made to address the issues of environmental injustices by
involving the communities that are hardly hit by the issues in solving these problems so as to ease
the unfair burden of environmental hazards on these communities.
Increasing environmental viability goes hand in hand with redistributing the authority and
power to make decisions back to the vulnerable communities that are hardly hit by the effects of
environmental injustices. Some of the actions that communities must take to realize better
environmental viability include practicing self-education by empowering the voices of the people
in the communities, elevating the voices of the communities, Hold the officials who are responsible
for such injustices into account, acknowledging the damage, and participate in processes to repair
it (US EPA, 2021). Even though the government should be accountable for the environmental
justice issues, there is responsibility at individual levels as well. Preventing environmental
